When uploading a video to DistroVid, you can indicate an existing Vevo channel to map the video to, or have us request a brand new Vevo channel for you.
Entering an Existing Vevo Channel
To enter an existing Vevo channel for your video upload, select "Yes - There is an existing VEVO channel" under the "Vevo channel" section of the upload form. Then, enter your existing channel name when prompted.
Requesting a New Vevo Channel
If you don't have an existing Vevo channel for your artist name, DistroVid will send a request with your first video upload to have a channel created for you. You can select "No - There is no existing VEVO channel" on the upload form to indicate you need a new channel made for your videos.
When a channel name is generated, it's based on your artist name. If that channel name is in use, we may need to resubmit a new request for a different channel name.
Creating a New Vevo Channel if the Original is in Use
If the attempted channel name for the initial request is found to be a channel name that is already in use, we will need to send a new request with a different channel name.
Typically, the best practice for this situation is to add "Music" or "Official" to the new name to differentiate your channel from the existing channel. Your channel name and artist name do not need to be an exact match.
Channel names have two main requirements:
- The channel name cannot exceed 16 characters, excluding the VEVO portion attached at the end of the channel name.
- The channel name cannot contain special characters or punctuation.
Channel names are also case-insensitive. For example, these two channel names would be considered the same channel within Vevo:
- ARTISTNAMEVEVO
- artistnameVEVO
If your artist name includes the word "the" it is also common practice to remove "the" from the channel name in order to not hit the character limit. For example, TheBandVEVO may be shortened to BandVEVO.
