When you distribute your music to TikTok & other ByteDance stores you'll decide what part of your track to make available as a sound in TikTok's audio library. You'll set this as the "Preview start time" for each song on your release.
TikTok has two categories of monetized content on their platform: Playlist-Generated Content (PGC) and User-Generated Content (UGC).
Playlist-Generated Content is content where a creator has selected the song clip you distributed to TikTok through DistroKid from TikTok’s in-app audio library. 100% of revenue generated by PGC content on TikTok goes to you and can be tracked in your DistroKid Bank Tab.
User-Generated Content is content that uses your music where the content creator did not select your specific song clip from the audio library. To monetize UGC content on TikTok, purchase the Social Media Pack album extra to have your tracks added to TikTok’s Music ID service. You’ll receive 80% of all UGC-generated revenue going forward.
Important note: releases uploaded before June 12th, 2024 with "TikTok & other Bytedance stores" selected will receive UGC-generated royalties (minus 20%) through the December 2024 royalty payment period. If you'd like to continue monetizing UGC on TikTok after December 2024, add Social Media Pack to your release from the album page.
