If you plan on uploading a DJ mix or a remix of a song to DistroKid, please note that you will require permission to do so from all concerned parties. It is not possible to upload songs with uncleared samples.
You are welcome to upload remixes of your own work, either remixed by yourself or by another remixing artist. However, if your remix is of another artist's song or contains any part of another artist's original music, streaming services require permission from the original artist.
Uploading a Remix of Your Own Song
If you are uploading a remix of your own song, you do not need to credit yourself as a remixer. You can simply add "Remix" as version information for the track.
To add remix version information on the upload form, use the Add "version" info to song title? section. In this section, select "Other," and enter "Remix."
You should then see a title like this under the "Song title preview" section: YourSongTitle (Remix)
Uploading a Remix of Your Own Song by a Remixing Artist
If you are uploading a remix of your own song by a remixing artist, you will only need to add a collaborator with the "Remixer" role. You will not need to add separate version information for the track.
To add a remixing artist to a track on the upload form, use the Add featured artist to song title section. Once there, select "Yes, add featured artists to track title" and select the "Remixer" artist role in the dropdown menu. Then, enter the Remixing artist's name in the box next to the artist role.
Under the section that says Song title preview: you should see something like this: YourSongTitle (RemixingArtist Remix)
Uploading a Remix of Another Artist's Music
If you are uploading a remix of another artist's music, you must have permission from the original artist to do so.
If you have permission from the original artist to upload your remix of their song, you will need to list the original artist's name in the "Artist/band name" section of the upload form. This will use an artist slot. If you need more artist slots, you can upgrade your plan at https://distrokid.com/plan.
At the track level, you will need to add your artist name as a "Remixer" artist role. To add yourself as a remixing artist to a track on the upload form, use the Add featured artist to song title section. Once there, select "Yes, add featured artists to track title" and select the "Remixer" artist role in the dropdown menu. Then, enter your artist name in the box next to the artist role.
Under the section that says Song title preview: you should see something like this: OriginalSongTitle (YourArtistName Remix)
Important Information Regarding Remixes
It is important to keep in mind that remixes are not cover songs. In the "Songwriter" section of the upload form, do not select the cover song option if you are uploading a remix.
