DistroLock is a free service powered by DistroKid that makes it harder for anyone (who's not you) to upload your original music to streaming services. Once you upload and lock your original music in DistroLock, other services can see this lock and prevent unauthorized uploads of the audio on their platform.
When you upload your audio to DistroLock, we extract an "acoustic fingerprint," log it, and then delete your audio from our servers. If you don't want to upload your music to DistroLock, you can generate fingerprints on your own computer using Chromaprint and just send those.
When uploading to DistroLock, you can also register your music with Audible Magic, a leading public fingerprint database. Audio fingerprinting services can detect matches even if the audio has been sped up, pitch-shifted, or otherwise altered. Many music services utilize these services to block unauthorized releases, including YouTube, DistroKid, SoundCloud, Facebook, Vimeo, Twitch, and others.
