It's possible to claim your Spotify for Artists profile prior to your first ever release with a new artist name. To do so, you will need to locate your Spotify Artist URI and claim the page at https://artists.spotify.com/claim.
In order to make sure you have enough time to claim your profile, make sure to upload your music at least four weeks in advance of the release date.
Finding Your Artist URI
Once you have uploaded your music to DistroKid and you can see that it has been successfully sent off to services, you will need to locate your Spotify Artist URI before claiming your artist page. To find the URI, you can use DistroKid's Spotify Looker-Upper tool at https://distrokid.com/uri/spotify.
Here's how you can use the tool:
- Use the dropdown menu to select the release you want the URI for
- Click on "What's the Spotify URI?"
- See the result that includes the Album, Track, and Artist URIs and direct links for the release
The URI you need in order to claim your artist page will be on the results page under the "Artist:" section. If there are multiple artists on the release you are trying to claim profiles for, all artist profiles and their roles will be listed.
If your release hasn't been ingested by Spotify yet, you will likely come across this message:
Not to worry! It generally takes a day or so for Spotify to ingest releases. Your URI information will be available in the next day or so!
If this is the case, try again after a few days. Spotify will have likely ingested your release by then, and it will be available for URI request.
Claiming Your Artist Page in Spotify
Once you have your Artist URI, you'll need to visit https://artists.spotify.com/claim to claim your page directly through Spotify. Select "Artist or manager" to continue.
