If DistroKid reached out asking you to log in to protect your royalties, it's real, not a scam, and it's worth doing right away.
Why you're getting this
If you're getting this notice, it means your account has been inactive and your balance is at risk of being turned over to the state.
Every state has escheatment laws. If an account sits inactive for long enough, the law requires companies like DistroKid to hand over any unclaimed balance to that state.
What to do about it
Just log in. That's it. You don't need to withdraw your balance, change anything, or take any other action.
It takes about 10 seconds, and you're done.
Already logged in recently? Great, then you're covered. If you're not sure whether it was recent enough, log in again just to be safe.
Going forward, log in at least once a year to keep your account active.
What happens if you don't log in
If your account stays inactive, state law may require us to turn your balance over to your state, and we won't be able to get it back for you after that. You'd need to file a claim directly with the state to recover it. Since the timeline depends on your state, it's best to log in as soon as you can.
How to tell this is really us
We might reach out about this by email, phone, text, physical mail, or a DM on social media. Whatever the channel, DistroKid will never ask you for your password, bank details, or payment information to resolve this. All we ever ask you to do is log in.
If a message asks for any of that, or feels off in any other way, don't respond to it. Log in directly at distrokid.com instead, and contact support to check it out.
