Yes!
You can change (rebrand) your artist name across all services. Go to your release page in DistroKid, click "Edit Release", and update your name there. You can even update all your releases at once from a single edit request.
Before you do, read through the info below. Rebranding is a big move, and there are some things you should know first.
If you've already submitted a name change and it updated everywhere except Apple Music/iTunes, reach out to our support team. We can help get Apple sorted.
Things to Know Before You Rebrand
-
Your releases need to be live.
Stores won't let you re-upload a release with a different artist name. So if you deleted your music to try to rebrand, you'll need to re-upload it with the original name first, then submit an edit request once it's back in stores.
-
Update your full discography.
When you rebrand, all your releases need to reflect the new name. If some releases have the old name and some have the new one, stores might hide the ones they think have conflicting info.
The easiest way: use the "Update all of my [Artist Name] releases to use the new artist name" checkbox on the edits page. Right now, this only works for releases with one primary artist (not collaborations).
-
Followers and monthly listeners probably won't transfer.
Most stores create a brand new artist page instead of renaming your current one. We can't ask them to keep your existing page. That means your followers and monthly listeners will likely start over on the new page.
-
Play counts and playlists should carry over.
If you're editing metadata through our edits feature (which doesn't change the ISRC), your play counts and playlist placements should stay. But this is up to the stores, not us.
-
It takes time.
Submitting the rebrand request is instant, but the actual updates aren't fully automated. Real humans at the stores need to process them. Expect up to a couple of weeks for everything to update.
-
Your releases might get mapped to the wrong artist page.
If your new name matches or is close to an existing artist, stores might put your music on their page. If that happens, go to https://www.distrokid.com/fixer to request a new artist page.
-
There's no quick undo.
If you change your name and want to go back, you'll need to submit another name change request. And any side effects from the first change (like lost followers or mis-mapped releases) aren't guaranteed to be fixed just by switching back.
