If you administer your own publishing, meaning you're not using DistroKid Publishing or another publisher to manage your compositions, you'll need to opt into TikTok's standard publishing license to avoid content blocks. Without it, your music can end up missing from TikTok.
TikTok's publishing clearance is now handled directly through the Harry Fox Agency (HFA).
How to clear your publishing for TikTok
Go to the Harry Fox Agency TikTok publisher account form and fill it out. You'll need:
- Your publishing company's name and, if you have one, your HFA publisher account number
- Your IPI number, if you're set up for international collection through a PRO
- The name and contact information for whoever will administer the account
Once you submit the form and agree to HFA's terms, you'll get an HFA online account where you can register your works, get paid, and access royalty statements.
From there, log into the HFA Portal and click "Licensing and Agreements" to open the Agreement Portal. Find TikTok's agreement under "New Agreements" or "Open Agreements," click into it, and opt in. See How Do I Participate or Opt-Into Open Agreements offered through the HFA Portal? for the full walkthrough.
Do I need to do this?
This only applies if you administer your own publishing. If DistroKid Publishing or another publisher already handles your compositions, you don't need to do anything here.
