  • Signing up using Apple's "Hide My Email" feature

If you signed up for DistroKid using our Social Sign-In feature through your Apple account, you have the choice to conceal your real email address by using Apple's "Hide My Email" feature.

If you have selected this option, an email address is created by Apple that ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com. This email address is the one kept on file for your DistroKid account.

The inbox for this new email address will receive all emails from DistroKid (including 2-factor authentication and verification emails), and those emails are then forwarded to your actual email address inbox - the one you use for your Apple ID.

Signing in using your Apple ID

If you are unable to sign into DistroKid with your actual email address, it is possible you used Apple's "Hide My Email" feature when signing up. If this is the case, you can sign in to DistroKid using your Apple ID by heading to https://distrokid.com/signin and selecting the "Sign in with Apple" button:

    apple_sign-in.png

From there, please follow the login steps to confirm the Apple ID login. Once complete, you will have access to the account on file, and you may change the email address on file if necessary by heading to https://distrokid.com/account.

Signing in using your concealed email address

If logging in via Social Sign-in does not work for you, you can find your concealed Private Relay email address and log in to your account manually by following these steps:

    1. Go to your iCloud Settings on your Apple device
    2. Under iCloud, tap “Hide My Email”
    3. Search for “DistroKid” in the search bar
    4. If you used “Hide My Email” for DistroKid, your generated email will show up here
    5. Log in to DistroKid using that generated email and your DistroKid password
    6. Visit https://distrokid.com/account to update your email

If you cannot remember the DistroKid password for the account, you may request a password reset by following these steps:

    1. Log out entirely. You can do so by going to this link: https://distrokid.com/signout.

    2. Click the 'Forgot your password?' link at www.distrokid.com/signin, and enter the email on file (the one generated by Apple ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com) in the following prompt. You'll then get an email with a link to change your DistroKid password.

  • I Already Paid, But DistroKid Is Asking Me to Restore My Account

If you are trying to log into your existing DistroKid account and are being asked to choose a plan when you log in, then it is likely that you are logging in using an email address that is different than the one on file for your existing account.

This usually means you signed up with a different email address, or entered a typo in your email address when logging in. Please make sure you're using the correct email, and try again.

If you don't remember the email you signed up with, please contact us here for assistance in locating it!

  • 2-Step Authentication Codes For Login

To maintain a high level of security, DistroKid has a 2-step authentication process that will send a six-digit code to the email address on file for your DistroKid account when a login attempt is made from a new device or new IP address. This code must then be entered at the login screen for access.

2-Step Authentication Codes Are Not Received

If you are not receiving the 2-step authentication emails, it's likely that they're either going to your email account's spam folder, or being bounced entirely by your email provider. Check in with your email provider to ensure that all emails from distrokid.com are allowed.

  • How Do I Use Social Sign-In?

If you have an existing DistroKid account and would like to use one of these additional services to log in, the email address you use for the additional service must match the email address you use for your DistroKid account in order to be able to sign in.

You can access your social sign-in settings within your account by clicking on your profile icon in the top right, navigating to  "Account", and then clicking "Manage connected social accounts":

  • I Have a Question Regarding a Charge/Refund

  • Why Is My Card Not Working?

Unfortunately, if your credit card isn't working, there's not much DistroKid can do to help. Your bank or credit card provider sends the decline code directly to our credit card processor, so we recommend reaching out to your bank or credit card provider for more information in the case of a declined card.

When you enter your card details in DistroKid, they go straight to our credit card processor and never reach our database or servers. Therefore, we can't resolve any issues on our end.

If your credit card doesn't work, please try a different card or check with your bank to ensure it permits recurring payments and charges from DistroKid.com.

  • What's My Renewal Date?

Your renewal date for any subscription made in DistroKid is the date you first signed up and paid for the subscription. Your subscriptions will automatically renew every year on that date.

Renewing subscriptions include both your core DistroKid subscription, as well as Album Extra subscriptions.

To view the date that you signed up for a DistroKid subscription or opted into an Album Extra, you can click on your profile icon in the upper right corner and click Receipts, or navigate directly to https://www.distrokid.com/receipts. On the Receipts page, the first date listed for a subscription charge is the date you signed up for it.

    Renewal Charges

You can update your card information at any time by clicking on your profile icon in the upper right corner of DistroKid and clicking "Credit Card," or navigating directly to https://distrokid.com/card.

Many DistroKid Album Extras are also subscription based and will renew on the date that the Extra was opted into. Most Extras are annually renewed (once per year), while several of our optional album extras, such as Beatport distribution or Social Phone, are renewed monthly. For monthly extras, those renewals on the date of the month that the extra was originally opted in to.

For more information about DistroKid's optional Album Extras, including pricing, please check out the FAQ article here.

Note: If your core DistroKid subscription fails to renew, your music may be temporarily removed from services until we've received your subscription renewal. If your music is removed due to a lapsed subscription, it will automatically be reinstated in services once we receive your renewal.

  • Downgrading Your DistroKid Subscription to a Lower Plan

To initiate a downgrade on your account, you can head to your Account page at https://distrokid.com/account/, and click the “Manage Membership” button at the bottom. From there, you'll see the option to downgrade your subscription.

Please note that the new, lower subscription will take place on your next renewal date after scheduling a downgrade. Your current subscription and its benefits will continue until that date.

Keep in mind that if you choose to downgrade, you will lose the features available in the higher subscription plan once your downgraded plan begins. If you change to the Musician plan instead of a Musician Plus or Ultimate plan, you will lose the ability to choose a label name, specify release dates, and other great features.

    How to Downgrade Your Subscription

To downgrade your subscription, head to your Account page at https://distrokid.com/account/, and click the “Manage Membership” button at the bottom. From there, click "Downgrade."

This will bring you a page where you can select the plan you wish to downgrade to. If you select a plan that offers less artist slots than the number of artists in use on your account, you will be brought to a page where you can select which artists to keep on your account. When the downgrade is processed, all other artists will be removed from the account, and all of their releases will be removed from services (unless they're opted into the Leave a Legacy album extra).

To select the artists to keep, check the box to the right of the artist name(s) on this page. Once you have checked the artist(s) you want to keep, click the button on the bottom of the page to keep the artist(s) and continue.

Next, you'll be brought to a page to confirm the downgrade. The page will display the new plan that you will be downgraded to, the date that plan will start, and which artists you are keeping on your account. To commit to the downgrade, click on the "Downgrade to (New Plan)" button.

    Cancelling a Scheduled Downgrade

If you have scheduled a downgrade and then decide you want to stay on your current subscription, you can cancel the scheduled downgrade by going to your Account page at https://distrokid.com/account/, and clicking the “Manage Membership” button at the bottom. If a downgrade is scheduled, you will see a reminder of this scheduled downgrade. To cancel the downgrade from there, click on "Cancel downgrade."

You can also cancel a downgrade if you're on a release page for an artist that is scheduled to be removed from your account when your downgrade processes on your next renewal date. From the release page, you'll see a notification about the pending downgrade and a button you can click to cancel the scheduled downgrade.

  • What is Social Phone?

Social Phone is winding down due to changes in US regulations and will go offline on June 1, 2025.

    Key Dates:

    • November 1, 2024: No more charges. Texting remains free until December 1.
    • December 1, 2024: Service enters read-only mode. You can still view past messages and contacts, but can’t send new ones or add contacts.
    • June 1, 2025: Full shutdown—no further access to messages, contacts, or data.

Need assistance? Feel free to reach out with any questions. We’re here to help.

DistroKid’s Social Phone feature allows you to grow your fanbase with text messaging. Once you opt in, you can pick a number, and send & receive texts with your fans using our intuitive texting inbox.

Opt in for $12.99/month. Opt out at any time.

Why would I want Social Phone?
Texts have a 98% open-rate, compared with social media where only 2% of followers see your posts. DistroKid is always working to build new avenues for artists to connect with their fans.

Can I have more than one Social Phone Number?

You get one number with unlimited texts for now (we'll see how that goes).

    Out of country texts?

This number works with US and non-US fans (based on testing so far). Though, if you are communicating with an individual in another country, they may want to include the country code in the phone number when texting you back (+1 followed by the Social Phone #).

Can I sort contacts that reach out to me on Social Phone?

When your fans sign up to contact you via Social Phone, they can input information about themselves. At this time contacts can add their name, city, birthdate, and gender identity. You cannot sort contacts by any of these identifying flags, but if you use a third party SMS promotional tool these can be useful for setting up demographic groups.

  • What Happens If I Stop Paying the Annual Fee?

If you stop paying your annual subscription fee, we may remove your DistroKid releases from the services you delivered them to. You will continue to have access to DistroKid.com, and will still receive any earnings owed to you.

To prevent this from happening, please make sure to keep a valid credit card on file on your DistroKid account. You can also opt your releases into our Leave a Legacy Album Extra to protect your releases from being removed in the event of a subscription lapse.

    Lapsed Subscriptions

DistroKid subscriptions automatically renew every year on the date the subscription was first created. If the charge fails, we'll give you ample notice before removing any of your music from streaming services – we know you don't want any surprises when it comes to your music.

If your music is removed from streaming services after your payment lapses, your releases will be automatically restored once you update your credit card information and allow the past-due charge to succeed. Credit card information can be updated at any time by visiting https://distrokid.com/card

If you want a release to remain in services in the event of a lapsed credit card payment, you can opt it into our Leave a Legacy Album Extra. You can read more about Leave a Legacy here.

  • If I Don't Renew My DistroKid Subscription, Will My Music Stay Live in Streaming Services?

If you don't renew your subscription to DistroKid, your music will be removed from services. DistroKid subscriptions are billed annually on the date you first signed up and paid for the subscription.

To prevent your releases from being removed for this reason, you can opt any upload into DistroKid's optional Leave a Legacy album extra.

The Leave a Legacy Album Extra

The Leave a Legacy option can be added to a release to prevent removal by DistroKid due to a lapsed subscription payment (e.g., declined credit cards).

If you ever cancel your subscription, any releases with the Leave a Legacy extra will still be available in streaming services unless you choose to delete them.

Adding this extra to a release does not replace your annual membership fee if you have an active subscription, and it is not a one-time payment for all of your releases; each release must have this extra if you wish to cancel your subscription and keep your releases listed in streaming services.

To opt in, find the Leave a Legacy checkbox on DistroKid's upload form, or on your release page.
